This zone is the lowest in elevation (< 300 meters below sea level) and is characterized by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean (the closest of all five of the Ras Baixas sub zones). The grapes grow on vines ranging from 15 to 25 years old, which are trained feet off the ground on concrete posts (parrales) which help prevent fungal growth and rot
